Benefits of Tin Ceiling Tiles Over Other Materials

We know a lot of choices go into a home remodel. Aside from accent pieces, furniture and decorations, you have hundreds of construction options to make decisions about. For every detail of every room down to the fixtures, colors, materials, and textures there's a choice to make that can change your design, budget, and more.

Here are some of the benefits of tin ceiling tiles compared to other materials. They are an excellent choice for your ceiling, backslashes and art projects.

Tin vs. Thermoplastic

Cost- While plastic may seem like a cheaper way to achieve the same look and feel, it may actually end up costing you more. A white tin ceiling tile starts as low as $12 per unit, while plastic starts at $18.99 a panel from Lowes or Home Depot.

Durability- One of tin's main selling points is it's durability. Made from plated US Steel, it's resilient. It's also the most recycled material in the world so you can rest assured you're doing your part to be environmentally friendly whereas plastic is terrible for landfills. Plastic tiles are lightweight, but have been known to melt which could end up costing you an arm and a leg in repair damage.

Authenticity- Tin looks more antiquated and achieves the gilded look better than cheaper imitations.

Tin vs. Aluminum

Cost- Tin is a less expensive, much stronger material than aluminum.

Durability- The seams of tin are tighter so they lock together more effectively. Both must be primed and painted on both sides to prevent corrosion.

Authenticity- Subjective, but the seams of tin look nicer and are more authentic copies of European plaster.

Tin vs. Blackplate

Cost- Design-wise, tin is much shinier and can last longer than blackplate before it will rust. Tin is a more expensive option, but we offer it as affordably as possible.

Durability- Blackplate is sheet iron before it is tinned and the closest competitor to the steel we use. As a solid it is more durable, but only comes uncoated. Our finished tin tiles allow us to create the incredible powder coated finishes you see in our patterns, which blackplate can't do.

Authenticity- A good looking alternative if you don't care about color options.

The benefits of tin ceilig tiles over other materials abound. The original is always the best. If you're still considering the best solution for you, read a little more about tin vs. its faux lookalike, plastic.
