Color Trends That Will Define 2024
Every year, the world’s top paint companies name their most popular colors that they believe will set the stage for future color trends.
While 2023’s color trends focused on self-expression and experimentation, 2024 is all about confidence and manifesting neutrals with earthy color--all with even more warmth than we saw last year.
So then, which colors are the pros forecasting will take the world by storm in 2024?
In this article, we’ll dive into color experts' and paint giants' predictions for next year’s color trends. Then, we’ll share how you can work these bold trends into your own home alongside beautiful tin tiles from American Tin Ceilings.
Canceling Gray in Favor of Green
It's over with gray. In fact, two paint color giants swung toward green-gray neutrals this year. Graham & Brown chose "Viridis" as its paint color of the year. It's a light sage and olive blend that's warm yet still somehow neutral.
Dutch Boy Paints followed in the green way with a deep olive green bordering on a warm gray. It's called "Ironside" and it's a great choice for anyone who wants to go darker and bolder with the neutrals but doesn't want to go all the way to black.
Terracotta Evolution
The past two years terracotta, and similar rosy colors, have been favorites. 2024 is no different. However, the terracotta shades are interpreted differently in 2024. Sherwin-Williams's color of the year is "Persimmon" a slightly beige-y peach that's perfect as a neutral. It goes beyond whites, creams, or browns for a colored neutral that adds life and character to any space.
In a similar vein, Glidden picked a beige-y yellow called "Limitless." It's not cream, not yellow, and not beige but centers on a delightful position that is all three at once. They tout it as an adaptable, modern neutral that boots other neutrals (namely, gray) off the palette.
Forever Blue
Three paint giants named blue hues as their colors of the year. C2 Paint selected a light, breathy blue called "Thermal". It's a sky blue that has no problem with liberal, primary use rather than as an accent. C2 also named a beige-yellow (Brulee) and a rich green (Marshland) as part of its color of the year palette.
Valspar went with a robin-egg blue called "Renew Blue" that is calming yet exciting. It's the coolest tone of any of the colors of the year but doesn't come off as cold. It's refreshing.
Minwax chose "Bay Blue" as its color of the year. It's a vibrant and bold blue-green excellent used liberally as an accent. It was created to work somewhat like a stain that enhances wood's natural grain yet add distinctive color.
Warm Black
Design confidence is growing in 2024. It's a year of fully committing. No more gray, beige, or white. It's time to fully embrace color, boldness, and creativity. Even black has made an appearance Behr paint company chose a softened, warmed black called "Cracked Pepper" that perfectly embodies this sentiment.
They treated black as a color that could enliven a space just like blue, green, or beige, but in its own distinct way.
