Tin Tile Installation Types - Which is right for you?
Tin ceilings are an easy home makeover project as long as you choose the correct tile installation type for your application. It's important to know ahead of time where you'll be putting your tiles and what building materials are hiding behind the wall or ceiling you want to accent (wood, drywall, etc.) so you make your life a little easier by ordering the right materials and adhesive to complete the project.
Snaplock Installation
Ideal for Ceilings, Homeowners looking for an easy DIY project
Snaplock products are only available through American Tin Ceilings and are the easiest to install tin tiles available on the market today. They screw directly into pre-existing drywall (popcorn) or plaster ceilings and require no wood. The patented interlocking flange system is designed to hide screws and keep installations so clean-looking you'll never know a professional didn't do it!
Nailup Installation
Ideal for Backsplashes, Walls
Nail up panels are the original type of tin tile installation and still the most commonly sold today. They require either buying or renting a brad gun to nail the panels to a wood substrate that is typically made of plywood or OSB (oriented strand board). The easiest way to do it is to build a furring strip grid so you have a framework to efficiently repeat the pattern spaced out twenty-four inches from the center.
Dropin Installation
Ideal for Basements or Commercial Spaces
Suspended ceilings are a decorative addition to your overhead surface that hangs structurally lower. They offer other inherent benefits like easy access to maintenance pipes and noise reduction for the room. A suspended ceiling grid must be installed prior to attaching your panels, which come in standard 2' x 2' or 2' x 4' sizes for fluorescent ceiling lights that can easily be replaced with your tin tiles.
