Introducing the 1st place winner in American Tin Ceilings' Spring 2021 photo contest! This in-home bar and off-kitchen entertaining space is just dripping with a rustic tavern aesthetic that makes it impossible not to look up. The tin ceiling tiles are key in achieving the perfect vibe for the space.

Pattern #29 in Silver Burnt Umber sets this space apart, maintaining separation in an open format without closing it off. “It's an excellent example of using tin tiles creatively to set form and function side by side in harmony,” says Ken Lindfors, Sales and Engineering at American Tin Ceilings.

About the Project

A full update of a craftsman style home had the owners, the Strohs, looking for rustic details that would stand the test of time but add some atmosphere as well. They especially wanted the bar area to bring a cozy pub feel that reflected the existing crafts style architecture.

The Strohs created a space that draws the eye but doesn't overpower the adjacent kitchen, dining room, or any of the furnishings. With all the other details already in place, the tin tile had to be a team player and a leader all in one. American Tin Ceilings made that a possibility.

“We love your many tin ceiling options and their ability to recreate a style that some have forgotten. We love the huge variety of finishes available as it makes it possible to create a beautiful look in almost any space.” -Autumn Stroh

Successful Pattern Layout

The Strohs gave special attention to correctly laying out the pattern to ensure it would come out just right. They started from the center so the outside edges would align. The timber borders penned in the tin tile and set apart from the rest of the ceiling without any awkwardness. The addition of a crown molding further established this as a separate space in an open format.

The Makings of a Winner

When the sales, customer service, production team, and management got together to review all the photo contest submissions, the Stroh's images stood out immediately. The angle of the photo showcased both the tin tile and how it fit into the overall design.

The use of an Artisan color also caught their interest. Artisan colors layer metallics and colors for a patina aesthetic that you might only find in a historic building with original tin ceiling tiles. ATC's production and design teams have worked hard to reproduce an authentic look in the Artisan collection of colors.

The crown molding also played a big role in this winning photo. The Strohs used the C2 crown molding which is different from the tin tile pattern but doesn't complete with it.
