Modern Elegance Meets Custom Craftsmanship
Take a look at four beautiful designs by Shawn Tiltgen in cooperation with Scott Arthur Millwork, each finding a way to incorporate tin tile.
Wine Cellar
One of their most recent and remarkable projects is a breathtaking wine cellar in a downtown residential condo. The project began with the client’s vision of creating a space that could both display their extensive wine collection and maintain ideal storage conditions. Scott Arthur Millwork took on this challenge, transforming a simple room into a sophisticated and functional wine cellar.
Choosing the right materials was crucial in achieving the desired look and feel of the wine cellar. After considering several options, the clients fell in love with the Gun Metal tin tile finish in Pattern #2.

This choice added a touch of vintage elegance, perfectly complementing the modern setting of the downtown condo. The full-height glass doors not only seal the space effectively but also allow the beauty of the wine cellar to be appreciated from the outside.

Library
Another masterful creation by Scott Arthur Millwork is a sophisticated library in a residential home. The clients were captivated by the ‘Green Agate’ color and the oiled walnut finish, and the design was built around these elements. The room features four pieces of stacked-to-ceiling traditional crown molding, fluted pillars, a solid walnut desktop, a walnut shiplap back, and hand-glazed cabinetry and millwork.
The various patterns and textures in the library come together to create a cohesive and inviting atmosphere. The copper in the ceiling (Pattern #16 in Artisan Copper Washed White) pulls in the brass and copper of the chandelier and sconces, the antique copper cabinetry and door hardware, and the gold-shimmery tones in the wallpaper. This harmonious blend of elements makes the library a warm and elegant retreat.

When it came to choosing the tin tile finish for the library, the clients were quick to decide. "Personally, I have found that people seem to immediately gravitate to a finish they love and rarely do they ever deviate from that choice, even as the design process progresses," notes the designer. This intuitive choice contributed significantly to the overall design, adding a unique and personal touch to the space.

Saloon
In addition to the wine cellar and library, Scott Arthur Millwork designed a remarkable saloon in a beautiful 9,000 square foot log home in the Rocky Mountains. This secret room, accessible through a remote-controlled hidden door, serves as a cigar room equipped with special HVAC to allow airflow.
The saloon features a custom whiskey barrel poker table, distressed and hand-torched maple cabinetry, solid ceiling beams, stone countertops, authentic antique beer crates, an integrated surround sound system, a custom-made cedar-lined cigar humidor, and, of course, an American Tin Ceilings backsplash and ceiling.
Choosing the tin ceiling for the saloon was a perfect decision, as the room's 8-foot ceilings wouldn’t have accommodated other types of ceiling millwork, like a full coffer. The Pattern #29 in Artisan Copper with Burnt Umber tin ceiling adds character and charm, complementing the overall design and completing the space.

The backsplash peeks out from behind a television and speaker on the far wall. Though the pattern and color (Artisan Gold with Brushed Bronze) are different from the ceiling, it suits the luxurious maximalism and vintage vibe of the design. A smaller scale, Pattern #3 allows for more of the pattern to show in smaller spaces, such as a backsplash.

Entertaining Customers
The team at Scott Arthur Millwork also undertook an impressive kitchen and bar renovation in a 30,000 square feet. commercial building in Vegreville, Alberta. The tin is featured prominently in the staff kitchen and customer bar area.
Pattern #20 in Satin Brushed Nickel
The design style of the bar is ‘rustic,’ featuring knotty walnut cabinetry and bar panels. The Brushed Satin Nickel tin finish was chosen to tie in the stainless floating shelves and brushed nickel cabinetry hardware, creating a cohesive and stylish look. The concentric squares of Pattern #20 suit the clean lines and modern hints in the space.
